Mitosis - Cell Cycle Flashcards
Interphase
Chromosomes duplicate and the copies remain connected to each other
Prophase
AKA - Prophase & Prometaphase. In the nucleus, chromosomes condense and become visible. In the cytoplasm the mitotic spindle forms. The nuclear envelope breaks apart and the spindle starts to interact with the chromosomes.
Metaphase
The doubled chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell on the spindle.
Anaphase
Chromosomes separate into two genetically identical groups, and move to opposite ends of the cell.
Telophase
Nuclear envelopes form around each of the two sets of chromosomes, the chromosomes begin to lengthen and the spindle begins to disappear
Cytokinesis
The cell splits into two daughter cells each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
