Mitosis And Organelles Flashcards
S-phase
Synthesis 46 pieces DNA to 92 pieces DNA, where mutation happens
G1
Cell just completed mitosis, has half of cytoplasmic volume and organelles
G2
Almost same as g1, except has 92 DNA molecules in nucleus
DNA
Long linear molecule made of nucleotides that carries genetic information
Genetic code
How 3 nucleotides code for 1 amino
Gene
Section of DNA that codes for 1 protein
Chromosome
Another name for DNA, appear during prophase
Chromatin
DNA in the nucleus during interphase, not as tightly coiled
Chromatid
During s-phase when DNA is duplicated, you see chromosome composed of two sister chromatids
Mitosis
Interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
Interphase characteristics
Nuclear envelope, nucleolus present, chromosomes duplicated but not visible
Prophase characteristics
Nuclear envelope/nucleolus disappear, chromatin coils, centrioles migrate to opposite poles, spindle fibers form
Metaphase characteristics
Chromosomes line up, chromatids separate at the centromere and start to migrate
Anaphase characteristics
Chromosomes migrate to opposite poles pulled by microtubles of spindle fibers
Telophase characteristics
Chromosomes at poles, begin uncoiling, cytokinesis occurs, spindle disappears, nuclear membrane/nucleolus reappear
