Mitosis And Meiosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is s-phase’s function?
A
Prepare for replication, primarily by DNA synthesis/replication
2
Q
What does mitosis end with?
A
Two daughter cells
3
Q
What is the purpose of mitosis?
A
To replicate non reproductive cells.
4
Q
What are haploids or 1n?
A
Cells with 23 singular genetic material (DNA). Mainly seen in meiosis.
5
Q
What are diploids or 2n?
A
Cells with the 23 pairs of genetic material(DNA)
6
Q
What happens in metaphase?
A
- Spindle fibres attach to chromosomes
- chromosomes are pulled to the centre and put in a line (mitosis)(meiosis involves a double line during the first cycle)
7
Q
What happens in telophase (mitosis)?
A
- chromosomes group at opposing sides
- chromatids separate, becoming their own chromosomes
- DNA uncoils
- nuclear membrane forms
- cytokinesis occurs
8
Q
What is the purpose of meiosis?
A
The replicate/duplicate of reproductive cells(gametes: sperm and ova)
