Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is mitosis
A
the process in which most cells use to divide
2
Q
explain daughter cells in relation to mitosis
A
a singoe cells divides to form 2 identical daughter cells, these daughter cells carry the same number of chromosomes and exactly the same genetic info
3
Q
What are the 6 phases of mitosis
A
interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokenisis
4
Q
Explain the first three steps of mitosis
A
- inter - the single chromosomes start to replicate
- pro - single chro have replicated into pairs of chromatids
- meta - chromosomes line up along the equator of the cells
5
Q
explain the second three steps of mitosis
A
- ana - chromosomes are pulled apart and individual chromatids move to opposite ends of the cell
- telo - nuclear membrane appear around each set of chromsomes as the cells start to pull apart
- cytokenesis - the parent cells divides to produce two daughter cells
6
Q
What is the goal + importance of keeping same number
A
so they cells can —- reproduce repair and grow
