Mitosis Flashcards
What are the names of all the phases on mitosis
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase then cytokinesis
What happens during prophase in mitosis?
The two pairs of homologous chromosomes condense getting shorter and fatter and centrioles start moving to opposite poles. The nuclear envelope starts to break down
What happens during metaphase in mitosis?
Spindle fibres (protein) form from the centrioles and attach to the centromeres of the chromosome to align them in the middle.
What occurs during the anaphase of mitosis?
The spindle fibres contract pulling apart the chromosomes from the centromeres pulling to each pole one of each sister chromatid.
What occurs during telophase of mitosis?
Chromatids uncoil and stretch to become long and thin and a new nuclear envelopes forms around the two separated chromosome. The cytoplasm divides by cytokinesis to form two genetically identical daughter cells to the original cell
What occurs during interphase?
DNA is unraveled and replicates, normal functions carries out but every organelle is doubled and the amount of ATP increases
