Mitosis Flashcards
What type of human cells undergo mitosis
Somatic body cells
What number of cells does somatic cells have
Diploid 2n
What is the first stage prior to mitosis
interphase
How long does interphase take
18-24 hours
What happens in interphase
Cell begins to grow and prepare to divide. The chromosomes replicate in this stage. cohesion occurs. Centrosomes also duplicate
What happens in prophase
Chromosome condensation. Mitotic asters replace interphase microtubules and mitotic aster separation occurs
Prometaphase vs metaphase
Prometaphase = chromosomes captured, bi-oriented and travel to the spindle equators. Nuclear envelope bd. Metaphase = chromosomes allign at metaphase plate
Anaphase A
chromosomes move to poles
Anaphase B
Spindle pole separation occurs
Telophase
Nuclear envelope reassembles, contractile ring forms = cellular separation is now possible
Cytokinesis
microtubule array reforms, cleavage furrow from contractile ring.
Product
2 daughter cells that are identical to parent cells with respect to genetic information.
