mitosis Flashcards
what is mitosis?
the process by which new body cells are produced for:
growth
replacing damaged or old cells
what happens when an original body cell undergoes mitosis?
it splits into two identical daughter cells, identical to the original body cell
step 1
each chromosome is copied to make an exact duplicate
-double no of male and no of female
after stem 1,what do the chromosomes do?
the chromosomes aline themselves down the centre of the buckeye
step 2
spindle fibres attach to the chromosomes and the duplicate pairs are split apart,as they move to the opposite sides of the cell
what happens after step 2?
the duplicated chromosomes are seperated
what happens once the chromosomes have seperates themselves?
the nuclear membrane dissolves and two new nuclear membranes form around each of the two sets of chromosomes
step 4
the cell separates into two identical daughter cells with exact copies of the chromosomes in each cell-genetically identical
parent cell
chromosomes copied …
copies separating
chromosomes move apart
2 daughter cells
start of mitosis process-
one cell 46 chromosomes
end of mitosis process-
two cells 46 chromosomes each
