Q

Where are the sites of mitosis in plants?

A

Meristems/meristematic tissue:

  • Apical meristems: primary, grows on tips of stem and roots
  • Buds: secondary, branches & leaves
  • Cambium: Secondary growth, woody tissue, bark
  • Pericycle: Secondary, underground, plant roots

Q

Characteristics of complete metamorphosis:

A
  • total transformation
  • has a ‘pause’ stage (cocoon)
  • caterpillar –> butterfly
  • most larval tissue are destroyed,
  • reconstructed by embryonic tissue differentiate

Q

Characteristics of incomplete metamorphosis:

A
  • gradual transformation
  • shredding/ moulting
  • many stages
  • baby grasshopper –> adult grasshopper
  • less cell death
  • simply increase in cells, enlarge to corresponding tissue
