Mitosis Flashcards
0
Q
Interphase
A
Cell carries out normal functions
- cells DNA unravelled and replicated
- organelles are also replicated
- resulting in its ATP content increasing
1
Q
What’s cell cycle
A
Describes the events that take place as one parent cell divides to produce two new daughter cells which the each grow to full size.
2
Q
Prophase
A
- chromosomes condense, making them shorter and fatter
- proteins called centrioles start to move to the opposite poles of the cell.
- the nuclear envelope breaks and chromosomes are free to lie in the cytoplasm.
3
Q
metaphase
A
- chromosomes(each with two chromatids) line up along the middle of Cell, and are attached to spindle fibre by there centromere.
4
Q
Anaphase
A
- The centromeres divide separating each pair of sister chromatids.
- spindles contract pulling them towards opposite poles of cell, centromeres first.
5
Q
Telophase
A
- They uncoil and become long and thin.
- now that there chromosomes, a nuclear envelop forms around each group. Two new nuclei form.
- the cytoplasm divides and two new cells form. Identical to the parent cell.

Q
What method is used in observing the stages of mitosis?
A
Staining is used to have a clear view of the different stages of mitosis.
