  • cells DNA unravelled and replicated
  • organelles are also replicated

Describes the events that take place as one parent cell divides to produce two new daughter cells which the each grow to full size.

Q

Prophase

A
  • chromosomes condense, making them shorter and fatter
  • proteins called centrioles start to move to the opposite poles of the cell.
  • the nuclear envelope breaks and chromosomes are free to lie in the cytoplasm.

Q

Anaphase

A
  • The centromeres divide separating each pair of sister chromatids.
  • spindles contract pulling them towards opposite poles of cell, centromeres first.

Q

Telophase

A
  • They uncoil and become long and thin.
  • now that there chromosomes, a nuclear envelop forms around each group. Two new nuclei form.
  • the cytoplasm divides and two new cells form. Identical to the parent cell.
