Mitosis Flashcards
Stages of cell cycle
Interphase
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
Cytokinesis
What happens in interphase
DNA replicated, organelles copied and cell prepares for division
What happens in prophase
Chrsmomes condense
Nuclear envelope breaks down
Centrioles move to poles
Spindle fibres form
What happens during metaphase
Chromosomes line up along equator of cell and spindle fibres attach to centromeres (thing pinching chromatids together)
What happens during anaphase
Sister chromarids are pulled apart to opposite poles of cell by spindle fibres
What happens during telophase
Chromatids uncoil into chromatin
Nuclear envelopes reform around each set of chromosomes
Spindle fibres break down
What happens in cytokinesis
Cytoplasm divides forming two separate daughter cells
Cleavage furrow formed where the cell membrane pinches and pulls apart
Instead of cleavage furrow, what happens in a plant cell
Cell plate forms between the two cells
