Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
What are the stages of mitosis
A
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
2
Q
What happens during Prophase?
A
Condensation of chromatin to chromosomes, chromatids are joined at centromere, nuclear envelope breaks down, spindle fibres form between poles.
3
Q
What happens during Metaphase?
A
Centromere of chromosomes attaches to spindle fibres lining up, chromosomes are mostly visible now.
4
Q
What happens during Anaphase?
A
Splitting of sister chromatids at centromere, single chromatids move towards opposite poles.
5
Q
What happens during Telophase?
A
End of mitotic phase, chromosomes form clusters at each pole, become less visible, nuclear envelope forms, spindle disappears and disassembles.
