Mitosis Flashcards
Mitosis
-A type of cell division that occurs in the body
-During this process, a cell duplicates itself - forming 2 identical daughter cells
-Important for growth and repair
Interphase
-To prepare for cell division, The cell must first replicate its DNA.
-Chromosomes replicate to have 2 chromatids
What is the order of Mitosis
IPMATC
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, cytokinesis
Prophase
-Chromosomes condense and nuclear membrane disappear
Metaphase
The 46 chromosomes line up in a single file. Spindle fibers attach to centromeres.
Anaphase
The sister Chromatids seperate
Telophase
Nuclear membrane reforms. Each new cell is Diploid (has 46 chromosomes)
Cytokinesis
Cell membranes form, making 2 daughter cells, each with a nucleus.
Chromosomes and Diploids
Body cells have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs). This is known as a diploid number
