Mitosis Flashcards
Cell cycle
when cells in an organism go through a cycle of growth, development, and division.
Mitosis
The process by which a parent cell divides into two identical daughter cells.
Interphase
The stage of the cell between periods of mitosis in which the cell grows.
Prophase
The first phase of mitosis during which change the chromosomes condense and the nuclear membrane starts disappear
Metaphase
The second phase of mitosis during which chromosomes line up along he center of the cell.
Anaphase
The third of mitosis during which each chromosome is pulled apart by spindle fibers and resulting daughter chromosome mes are puled to opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase
The forth and final phase of mitosis during which a nuclear membrane forms around chromosomes on opposite sides of the cell and the chromosomes become unwound DNA in newly formed nuclouse .
Cytokinesis
A stage of the cell cycle during which the cell membrane pinched in and the cytoplasm divides into two daughter cells after mitosis.
Centriole
A organelle for near the nucleus in animal cell that forms the spindle fibers that pull chromosome apart during mitosis.
Chromosomes
The part of a cell that contains genes.
DNA
The chemical found in cells that is the main component of chromosomes and carries genetic information.
Centmere
A structure that holds the sister chromatids together.
SIster chromatids
Two identical chromatids that make up a duplicated chromosome.
Daughter cell
The result of the cell cycle where two genetically identical cell are formed.
