mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
prophase
A
- chromosomes condense and become visible
- centrioles move to opposite sides of the nucleus and form poles
- nuclear membrane breaks down
- centrioles form spindle fibres between the two poles
- centromere of each chromosome attaches to spindle fibres extending from each pole (1st step)
2
Q
anaphase
A
-spindle fibres contract, splitting the centromeres and separating the sister chromatids
-the single-strand chromosomes are separated
-chromosomes are pulled to opposite poles
(3rd step)
3
Q
metaphase
A
- chromosomes align at equatorial plane of cell
- spindle fibres attach to centromeres of chromosomes (2nd step)
4
Q
telophase
A
-nucleus membrane reforms around the two sets of chromosomes
-spindle fibre disappear
-chromosomes become longer and thinner
(4th step/ last step)
