Purposes of cell replication in eukaryotes and prokaryotes
Cell replication is a form of cell division when a parent cell divides to produce two identical daughter cells. For eukaryotes, genetic information must be passed on accurately which is stored in the nucleus. In prokaryotes it is stored in the nucleoid.
The Cell Cycle
Cell Cycle hass three main stages: interphase, mitosis and cytokinesis
Interphase
Interphase includes three phases: G1 (pre DNA synthesis), S (DNA synthesis) adn G2 (post-DNA synthesis) Some cells move out of the cell cycle and into GO (resting pahse)
Mitosis
Mitosis is a continuous process that is described in sub phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. Identical copies of each chromosome are passed from the parent cell to two daughter cells.
Cytokinesis
Cytokinesis marks the beginning of two new cells, and the cell cycle is the period between one cytokinesis and the next. Divides the cytoplasm of a parental cell into two daughter cells
