What is Mission Command?
A Philosophy. “The Army’s approach to command and control that empowers subordinate decision making and decentralized execution appropriate to the situation.
- Helps the Army meet Commander’s intent when orders become obsolete or conditions change
- Subordinates have responsibility and authority to fulfill commander’s intent
What is Commander’s Intent?
Clear and Concise expression of the purpose of the operation and desired end state
What are the four strategic roles the Army plays?
- Shape Operational environments
- Prevent Conflict
- Prevail during large-scale ground combat operations
- Consolidate gains
What is Unified Land Operations?
Execution of offense, defense, stability, and defense support of civil authorities in multiple domains to fulfill the the four strategic roles

What is a Key Task?
Significant activities that the force must perform as a whole to achieve the desired end state

What is Command and Control?
Exercise of authority and direction by a designated commander over forces in the accomplishment of a mission
- This is a war fighting function that enables convergence
What is convergence?
Integration of capabilities from multiple domains to create multiple programs for the enemy

What is Control?
Regulation of forces and war fighting functions to accomplish the mission in accordance with the commander’s intent

A system used at every level of command. It is the arrangement of personnel, networks, processes, command posts to accomplish the mission
What is the guide to effective command?
- Create a positive command climate
- Ensure unity of effort
- Train subordinates on command and control and application of mission command
- Make timely and effective decisions and act
