Q
What is the difference between an alternator and a generator?
A
Both are electromechanical device having the basic work of converting mechanical energy to Electrical energy but the differences are there based on their construction.
In an alternator, electricity is produced when a magnetic field spins inside the stator (windings of wire). An Alternator has field rotating but phase conductors stationary.
In a generator, on the other hand, the armature or windings of wire spin inside a fixed magnetic field to generate electricity.
