Miscellaneous Flashcards
Buffer solution
It’s a solution whose pH changes very little when a small amount of acid or base is added to it. They are necessary in biology for proteins to work.
Preparing a buffer solution
By dissolving the acid form of the buffer in water. Then measure the pH of the solution by using a pH probe. The solution’s pH can be calibrated by adding either acid or base to it, depending on its nature. Once the pH is correct, dilute the solution to the final desired volume.
pH of a solution
The measure of molar concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution, and as such is a measure of acidity or basicity of the solution. (power of hydrogen)
Molarity
Number of moles of a solute per liters of solution.
Measure of concentration of a solute in a solution.
Conductivity
Ability of a material to conduct electricity or heat.
Isoelectric point
It is the pH at which a molecule carries no net electrical charge.
