Describe expectant management of miscarriage.
A
- ‘Waiting for spontaneous miscarriage’
- First-line and involves waiting for 7-14 days for the miscarriage to complete spontaneously
- Offer medical or surgical management if conservative has failed
- Bring woman back into EPAU for BHCG measurement

What is the medical management of miscarriage?
A
- Vaginal or oral prostaglandins (misoprostol)
- Give with antiemetics and pain relief
- Advise patient to contact doctor if bleeding hasn’t starting in 24h

A
2 main options:
- Vacuum aspiration (suction curettage)
- Surgical evacuation in theatre

- Ashermann’s syndrome
- Perforation of the uterus (rare, <1%)
