1. British were fighting 3,000 miles from home so had to keep shipping in men and supplies
2. War was fought over a large area and so the British had to hav men in all those areas
3. Time was on Americans’ side. The colonists had to hold out long enough and England may lose because they couldn’t bring over soldiers across the ocean quickly enough
4. The war was not popular in England. Britain had trouble getting men to fight in the war
5. France helped turn the tide by sending in money and trained officers to help the colonists
