- british colonists try to take possession of the ohio river valley area to take over fur trade
- 1753 fighting erupts when the British military move in
- george washington comes in and is defeated
- this begins the war
- called the F-I war because the Native Americans were allied with the british

banned all british settlement west of the appalachian mountains
- law also ordered settlers who had already moved there to leave the ohio river valley
- events that led up to the proclamation: After the F-I war, native-Americans were upset and attacked the Ohio River valley. King George III was worried that more fighting would take place at the frontier and so that is why he issued the proclamation
