What are commonly occurring nevi?
Junction Nevi: uniform in color and shape, flat or slightly elevated.
Compound Nevi: Center is elevated with surrounding area flat. Indistinct border.
Dermal Nevi: Elevated with a domelike shape. Has a soft, wrinkled surface.
Where do atypical nevi generally appear?
They occur predominantly in the trunk of the body.
What are characteristics found in ophthalmoscope evaluation in a patient with HTN?
Narrowing of vessels
Increased vascular tortuosity

What do cotton-wool bodies look like?
Fluffy white lesions that occur in the eye due to lack of oxygen being delivered there
What is a major physiologic change to the eyes that occurs in old age?
Presbyopia. This is a weakening of accommodation (focus) on near objects due to the lens becoming more rigid which decreases the eyes’ flexibility.
What are causes of a red tymphanic membrane?
Infection in the middle ear (acute otitis media)
Prolonged crying
What does cranial nerve I test for?
Olfactory (Sensory): Differentiate between odors (smell)
What occurs in sensorineural hearing loss in the older adult?
Presbycusis.
What is oral cancer?
Painless, firm, nonmobile red sore in the mouth that does not heal. Tooth mobility occurs without presence of periodontal disease and cervical lymphadenopathy can occur.
