What can parvovirus cause?

A
  • Reticulocytopenia
    • Anaemia
    • Normal platelets / white cells

Ix:

    - IgM active infection 
- IgG immunity 
- PCR as well (polymerase chain reaction)

A
  • Alcohol
    • B12/folate (essential for DNA synthesis)
    • Acute leukaemias
    • Myelodysplastic syndrome
    • Hypersplenism

A
  • Thrombopoietin from liver is reduced, so platelets reduced
    • Iron deficiency - poor diet / variceal bleeding
