What is iSCSI?
Acts a a communicator between?
iSCSI connects to?
WWN and is what is presented to the VM environment. A LUN of storage.
How did you use USMT?
User State Migration Tool
Why do we avoid nested shares?
To avoid having conflicting behavior for the same network resources if accessed through different shares–or points of entry.
What is CACLS and XCACLS?
Used for granularity when adding or removing NTFS permissions.
You can use CACLs * /T from a cmd prompt to document the ACL for individual files and folders.
How do you distinguish between basic and special NTFS permissions?
Right Click on the object that has the permissions. Note: If possible group resources that require special permissions in on container–as mixing basic and special can add to administration overhead.
When troubleshooting Inherited permissions what’s you best approach?
Start at the folder with the access problem and work up the folder directory.
When you are clearing Inheritance explain the difference between copy and remove?
Copy will recurse the child objects and write the NTFS permissions from the parent folder. Remove–removes all the permissions including the default NTFS permissions, like Admins, Users, Creator Owner, System–this could lead to serious problems.
Don’t dodge the issue???
Don’t make a user a member of the Admin group to fix the problem! Do the homework and figure it out.
How can you know that you have not “over privileged” a user via group membership?
Use the Effective Permissions tab to see what the result set of access is.
Explain the difference between NTFS vs. Share Permissions
When you enter a network resource through a share, the share permissions dictate what you can do through the share aw a whole. The NTFS permissions dictate what you can do to a specific file or folder.
Explain the difference between copy and move results to a file or folder.
Copy Create (CC)-Copy creates the permissions of the destination container and applies to your copied object placed within the container.
Move Maintain (MM)- Moving maintains the permissions of the parent folder.
SIDE NOTE: xcopy /o /x (=MM)
