Q
What is Barrett’s esophagus?
A
Barrett’s esophagus is a metaplastic condition in which the squamous epithelium of the distal esophagus is replaced by columnar cells. It is the end stage of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and is a non-cancerous precursor to esophageal adenocarcinoma (not squamous cell carcinoma).
