What is a system?

What is a process?
A series of steps taken to achieve a specific outcome within a system.
What are the 8 parts of any process or system?

Define supersystem.
A larger system that encompasses smaller systems.
Define system.
A complete entity composed of interrelated components.
Define subsystem.
A smaller component within a system that has its own function.
What is interdependence?
Components rely on each other for the system to function.
What is synergy?
The system achieves more collectively than its parts would individually.
What does entropy/obsolescence mean?
The natural decline of a system if not maintained.
What is sub-optimization?
Improving a subsystem at the expense of the overall system.
What are the functional parts of any enterprise?

What are stakeholders?
Individuals or groups affected by an enterprise’s operations.
What is the difference between a stakeholder and a shareholder?
- Stakeholders: Have an interest in the company’s success but may not own shares.
- Shareholders: Own shares in the company and are primarily concerned with profitability.
What are the parts of a Business Information Systems and how do they work together? Be able to recognize examples of each part.

How They Work Together
Hardware runs software, which processes data based on workflows, and people use the system to make decisions and complete tasks.
