Mirrors Flashcards
A device that reflects parallel light rays toward a focal point. They are used in head lights and flashlights
Concave mirror
A device that reflects parallel light rays from the principal axis. Used in blind intersections to see what is coming around the corner
Convex mirror
A device that reflects parallel light rays away from the principal axis. Also referred to as a diverging lens, used to correct nearsightedness.(magnifying glass)
Convex lens
Moving toward each other
Converging
Moving farther apart
Diverging
An image that forms where two light rays converge
Real image
An image that forms where there are no real light rays
Virtual image
An optical device that uses a plain mirror and a concave mirror to view distant objects
Reflecting telescope
A device that uses two convex lenses to view objects at a distance
Refracting telescope
The distance from the mirror or lens to the focal point
Focal length
Two focal lengths away from the mirror
Center of curvature
A flat smooth surface that reflects light in a regular way and forms a virtual upright image which is the same size as the object ( normal mirror)
Plain mirror
