Q

Minority Influence Strength

  • Consistency- Moscovici
  • Martin et al - internalisiation
A
  • Moscovici -6 people view a set of 36 blue coloured slides -state is the think they are blue or green-2 confederates said all slides were green on 2/3 trials -caused 8.42% to say wrong answer - consistency = major factor
  • Internalisation - martin et al - message supporting view + measured participants support - group 1 = heard minority influence agree with message/ group 2 = heard majority influence agree with message - less likely to change view if had listened to minority group - minority involves deeper thoughts = supports central argument of how the minority influence process work

Q

minority influence limitation

  • artificial tasks
  • moscovici = practical application
A
  • artificial tasks - asch - lack external validity - dk about real life situations practical applications
  • no real world application - clear distinction between minority + majority - moscovici majority = 4 people/ minority = 2 - real world = more complicated e.g. minority usually more committed to keeping same view
