Define minority influence:
Form of social influence which minority of people persuades others to adopt their beliefs/attitudes/behaviours.
Leads to internalisation where public + private attitudes = changed.
What is consistency?
MI most effective if minority keeps same beliefs over time + between all individuals that form the minority.
Effective = draws attention to minority views/increases interest
Consistent minority = people rethink own views
Define 2 types of consistency:
Synchronic: between people in minority group β> all saying same thing
Diachronic: saying same thing over time
Define commitment:
MI more powerful if minority demonstrates dedication to their position.
e,.g: making personal sacrifices/engage in extreme activities to draw attention
Show minority not acting out of self-interest.
What is the augmentation principle?
When MI carry out action despite opposition β> beliefs seen as βstronger than obstaclesβ.
