Positions in the church given to friends and relatives of those making the decision rather than those most suited
Give 2 problems with the Anglo Saxon church
~ Many of the clergy were married - this went against the traditional vow of celibacy supported by the Pope
~ Poor leaders who were corrupt, were more concerned with their own wealth and not willing to reform the church - church was not well run or keeping up with new Christian ideas - made Pope unhappy

How was the ecclesiastical court system changed after 1066?
In 1076 church courts were established - clergy were tried in church courts or bishops courts not secular courts. Church courts were less severe and Lanfranc wanted more types of cases to be tried in them eg. Blasphemy
