The healthy had a duty to look after the sick, and the rich had a duty to help the poor

- they studied world-wide scholarship (eg. Greek philosophy, Hippocrates, Galen, Theory of the four humours)
- medical encyclopaedias where they detailed their own work in organised way - later translated into Latin
Who are two Arab doctors who notably influenced medicine?
Avicenna and Rhazes
What did Avicenna do?
- produced encyclopaedia filled with medical knowledge which he called The Canon (used across Europe until late 1600s) - some still used today
What did Rhazes do?
- wrote encyclopaedia detailing his own observations
- wrote first ever medical notes about the difference between measles and small pox
What did the Islamic law forbid?
(Like in Britain) dissection of human bodies
