What is burnout?
A state of mental and physical exhaustion related to work or care-giving activities
- emotional exhaustion

- reduced sense of personal achievement
What is mindfulness?
Paying attention in a particular way on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally
What is allostatic load?
Prolonged stress leads to wear and tear on the body
Mediated through the sympathetic nervous system
How are stress and telomere shortening linked?
Those with perceived stress have shorter telomeres (lower telomerase activity)
What is FLOW?
A psychological state that can occur when challenged and skills in a situation are both high
Results in outstanding performance levels
