High-Level Wellness
A universal process that begins at birth.
Aging
Used to describe someone’s perception of his or her age.
Age Identity
Another person’s estimated age of someone based on appearances.
Perceived Age
The length of time that has passed since birth.
Chronologic Age
This concept is associated with a shift in emphasis from chronologic factors to such factors as whether individuals can contribute to society and benefit others and themselves.
Functional Age
Have identified three components of this: an active engagement with life, high cognitive and physical function, and low probability of disease and disability.
Successful Aging
“The prejudices and stereotypes that are applied to older people sheerly on the basis of their age.”
Ageism
Is experienced by people of all ages as fears and worries about detrimental effects associated with older adulthood
Aging Anxiety
The tendency to attribute problems to the aging process rather than to pathologic and potentially treatable conditions.
Age Attribution
Has been promoted by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine since the early 1990s. This movement views aging as a process that can be stopped and the lifespan as something that can be extended for up to 200 years.
Anti-Aging Movement
The large group of people born between 1946 and 1964. Comprises about 30% of the US population.

The increasing numbers of middle-aged adults who simultaneously juggle the demands of caring for older and younger generations.
Sandwich Generation
Refers to the provision of assistance to a family member or friend in a nonprofessional and unpaid role to support the person in a community setting.
