In 1572 St Bartholomew’s Day Massacre ten thousand French Protestants were killed. The king’s mother is said to have planned it. Elizabeth invited them to come over and work in Britain.
What happened during 1598 to 1600s
In 1598 the Edict of Nantes is issued by Louis XIV granting Protestants freedom to practice their religion.
What happened during 1600s to 1685
In the 1600s James the first planted Protestants in catholic Ireland to make people more loyal and less influenced by Spain. The Protestant population grew quickly however many Irish them as invaders and tension escalated to violence. In 1685 the Edict of Nantes is revoked by Louis XIV.
What happened during 1685 to 1745-46
The revoke of the Edict of Nantes sent a second wave of 200,000 to flee France and 50,000 went to Britain. In 1746 the Jacobite rebellions helped the Stuart family defeat the Havorian king George the first at Culloden in 1746. Afterwards the English began eliminating enemy chiefs and bagpipes were banned as an “instrumental war”
What happened during 1745-46 to 1780-1820
In 1780 the highland clearance began evicting 10,000s of highlanders in Scotland onto coastal or unworkable land by English landlords, those who refused to leave could be killed and many starved to death. Many migrated to America, Canada, England and Scottish cities such as Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
