A

A colony is established in Jamestown with the intention of growing crops and finding gold. Walter Raleigh a sea captain sent to America by queen Elizabeth became known as the “Father of the colonies” as he helped set up colonies such as Jamestown and Roanoke

What happened during 1620 to 1651

A

The pilgrim fathers arrived in America on Mayflower and formed a religious colony called New Plymouth to escape persecution and convert the indigenous people. This included puritans, Quakers and catholics

What happened during 1651 to 1773

A

In 1651 the Navigation Acts establish that America can only trade with Britain. In 1765 the stamp act is passed allowing Britain to taxes American goods such as tea. A former government tax collector Thomas Paine wrote the book “common sense” encouraging Americans to demand independence. Later 5 colonists were killed by British soldiers in the Boston massacre.
