When to use Hot application
- chronic pain
- Arthritis
- muscle spasms
- tight muscles
- stiff joints
- chronic sport injuries
When not to use Heat application
- 1st 48 hours after injury
- Active hemorrhage
- Localized malignant tumor
- skin redness or blisters
When to use cold application
- Sprains
- strains
- tendonitis
- Fresh injuries
- Contusions or bumps
- swelling areas
- trauma or accidents
- to stop bleeding
When not to use cold application
- open wounds
- impaired circulation
- Allergy or hypersensitivity to cold

- client unable to perceive heat and cold discomfort
- may lead to burns
