Midterm Topics: Chipchase and Birnstiel Flashcards
1
Q
What is the question Chipchase and Birnsteil are answering?
A
Trying to answer what RNA interacts with Amino Acids
2
Q
What is a dual-y axis plot? How to read it?
A
Plot with 2 y-axis; read by looking at the key to know which side to use for which data points
3
Q
What RNA molecules are represented on the plot? Where are they shown?
A
tRNA: 16-18~ small but lots of it
mRNA: 4~ little but of big RNA
rRNA: 7,12~ LOTS OF IT IN MEDIUM SIZE
4
Q
What experimental techniques were used?
A
- Dumped RNA and 1st column which catches biggest RNA fragments; and then kept pouring till the smallest RNA was caught in the last column
- The beakers that were poured had the radioactive amino acid (leu) and that only got caught with tRNA because it only interacts with that RNA
5
Q
Major Conclusions?
A
We know tRNA binds to amino acids
