Dialogue that continues between cuts

Sense of distance and location suggested by sounds
Synchronous/Asynchronous Sound
Sound that matches the image, or does not
Stereophonic, Multichannel and Surround Tracks
Speakers spread around a theater that don’t all play the same sound; can be used to give direction and depth to sounds
Simultaneous/Non-Simultaneous Sound
Sound that is occurring at the same time as what’s on screen; sound that is from a time not currently onscreen i;e a sonic flashback or narrator from after the main plot takes place
Sonic Flashback
A sound from an earlier scene; i;e a sound memory
