Q

What system is predominantly being trained during Anaerobic threshold training?

A

Mostly still your aerobic system, but this is the point where anaerobic is accelerated. Anaerobic = Oxygen system

Q

Is there ever a point in time when Anaerobic/aerobic systems are running independently?

A

Nope, they are ALWAYS both running

Q

Describe Lactate Threshold

A

expressed as a percentage of the athletes VO2 max, determines the rate of aerobic energy expenditure that can be maintained on a prolonged basis. Corresponds to the rate of aerobic energy expenditure at which lactic acid begins to accumulate in the blood stream.

Q

Describe “Economy”

A

Economy of movement refers to the rate of energy expenditure associate with a given rate of power output (speed of movement). ^Economy = v energy expended

Q

Describe Long Duration @ moderate intensity

A
  • LSD (60-70%)
  • Intensity should be less that LT
  • 30min to 2 hours
  • May constitute major fraction of training load
  • not high in stress on MSK or Phsyiological systems
  • induces muscle glycogen depletion and increased rate of fat metabolism

Q

Moderate Duration and Short duration at High intensity, what are the main benefits?

A

Moderate: Train @ LT, may help to improve LT which is important for those with high VO2
Short: Increase or Maintain VO2 and improves lactate tolerance via increased buffering capacity
