Midterm Part 2 Flashcards
Define “Endurance” (2)
- Ability to sustain a steady power output for a long time
- the ability to repeat brief exertions of near maximal effort
How can performance be expressed?
Force, speed, power, work, movement
What are the two main considerations in training and conditioning?
Metabolic: Energy systems (engine)
Mechanical: Neuromuscular (chassis and wheels)
Do physiological responses (VO2/HR) match similarly to exercise intensities(PO, Speed) in both trained and untrained people?
Nope
Describe Aerobic Threshold(5)
- Mostly aerobic, but not solely.
- Low PO compared to other systems
- Made for Long duration
- Below VO2 Max
- Continuous Activity (45 min)
VO2 max is a combination of what energy systems?
Both Anaerobic and Aerobic
Describe Good Cycling Technique/Position (5)
- Leg extension@ 97%
- Knee Cap over pedal spinal when @ 3 O’clock
- 45 degree angle of torso
- “Scrape mud off your shoe” at bottom of the pedal stroke
- “Cycle through it”
Describe Good Running technique/position (6)
- Good running is reactive (stretch shortening cycle)
- Elbows at 90 degrees or less and never cross centre of body
- “Shorten Contact time”
- Foot contact under centre of gravity
- Requires torso activation
- Back leg swing = passive movement
According to Billat(2001) how does Short VO2 max intervals spare glycogen and utilize fat better? But what is crucial to make sure this happens(role of recovery)?
- Lets the PCr system cover the O2 deficit (instead of glycolysis
- Utilizes O2 bound to myoglobin
- NEED enough recovery time to allow these two factors to recover (30 sec minimum)
