Midterm Homeostasis Lec2 Flashcards
the normal range for a given system
The set point of homeostasis (monitored by control centre)
Circadian Rhythm
are endogenous autonomous oscillators of physiological activities
Two classes of homeostatic controls
Intrinsic- act on the organ that makes them
Extrinsic- regulatory mechanism outside an organ, and accomplished by nervous and endocrine systems
Negative feedback loop components
- Stimulus
- sensor (monitors magnitude of a controlled variable
- Control Centre (compares sensor’s input with a set point)
- effector (makes response to get back to set point)
Positive feedback loop components
Amplifies initial change "Snowball" -Initial stimulus -Response -Stim Increase ->outside factor required to shut it off
Feedforward and Anticipation
Anticipated change to a regulated factor
(EX, salivating before eating, to prep. for carb breakdown).
(EX, breath rate increase before exercise).
-primes body through CENTRAL COMMAND
Systems regulated by homeostasis
Integumentary, Respiratory, Circulatory, Digestive, Nervous,
endocrine, musculoskeletal, reproductive, urinary
