the ability to see the connection between personal experiences and larger social structures. It is important to think and inquire because it allows the individual to see past themselves and view society as a whole.
What is the difference between high and mass culture? How does symbolic interactionalism view the difference?
High culture refers to the elites and their relationship to exclusive and expensive goods.
Mass culture caters to the general population and is most common with social media and T.V.
Symbolic interactionalism would see the difference in how societal norms bring them up and how societal norms, upbringing in education and not intrinsic value
What does panopticon mean in Michel Foucault’s analysis of social control and surveillance in modern society?y
There are uses of surveillance that are acts of social control through invisible cameras. This makes us more likely to conform without actually being watched
In what ways are mass media and social media agents of socialization?
Mass media includes the news, repaititon of word and often dictates dominant culture and ideaoligies
Social media: often has peer feedback trends and is decentralized
What is frankfurt school’s critique of capitalist culture
It argues that is isnt just about capitalism, rather its about control and being able to shape what people hear and think, it produces power and discourages change

Cultural capital are the non economic resources people use to gain social advantages such as Knowledge and education

Used to gain access to elite schools, jobs and social circles
