system of government where important decisions are made my state officials rather than elected representatives. ex the staff that runs city hall

Charter of Rights and Freedoms
- Guarantees fundamental freedoms, legal rights and equality rights
Canada able to amend it’s own constitution. Charter stands above all law in Canada

Democracy
a system of government where the population elects representatives, who make the laws and rules for the rest of society/

Fair treatment through the normal judicial system
Duty of care
responsibility for media to report accurately, not sensationally. ex treating victims well
Executive
AKA government. The management and governing of a country (PM, Cabinet and the federal departments they manage
constitutional democracy
authority of the majority is limited by legal and institutional means.. so that the rights of individual minorities are respected
Judiciary
series of independent courts
Interpret laws of the other two branches (prov and fed)
Legislature
law making branch of government (senate, HOC)
Mass Media
a means of communication that has the ability to reach large groups of people
Monarchy
Seeing a King or Queen as the head of state. Canada = constitutional monarchy
