ἐπεί and ἐπειδή followed by an aorist or imperfect often mean WHEN and refer to a definite act or situation in past time:
ἐπεί ἦλθον ἐπὶ τὴν κώμην αὐτὴν, αὐτὴν διήρπασαν (when they came to the village, they pillaged it)
