Conditional relative clauses

A

A relative pronoun or adverb may take the place of εἰ in the protasis of a condition.
If ἐᾱν is the normal introductory word, the relative is accompanied by ἄν:
ὅστις = εἰ, ὁστις ἄν = ἐᾱν
A relative used in this way has an indefinite antecedent, expressed or implied (“whomever, whatever”, etc)
The ἄν is often combined with an introductory relative adverb:
ἐπεὶ + ἄν = ἐπᾱν/ἐπήν ; ἐπειδὴ + ἄν = ἐπειδάν ; ὅτε + ἀν = ὅταν
