Q

What contributed to the Middle Ages and what caused it?

A

The Fall of the Roman Empire

  • It had become too big to manage and defend
  • The gap between rich and poor became wider and this resulted in the peasants become poorer, more resentful and being taxed heavier
  • Roman land management was poor and most Romans lacked farming skills, causing the volume of food crops to shrink
  • Roman army commanders became less disciplined: fighting each other for roles such as emperor
