- Parish Constables- locals, nominated, unpaid, had a regular job too
- Sanctuary- ask clergy for help, priest reported crime but cant be punished, oath to leave country in 40 days or become an outlaw
- Benefit of the clergy- clergy tried in church courts, read Bible passage (mainly only priests could read), church courts are more lenient
