Mid-Medulla Flashcards
Vestibular nucleus
- Termination of CN VIII
- Mid Medulla (dorsal aspect next to spinal cord CSF)
External or Lateral cuneate nucleus
- Relays propreoceperative information to the cerebellum
- Immediately lateral to cuneate nucleus
Inferior cerebella peduncle or restiform nucleus
- Connects brainstem/spinal cord to the cerebellum
Spinal tract of trigeminal
- Pain & temperature sensory information, 1st order receptors for CN III.
- Run through the lateral medulla
Spinal nucleus of trigminal
- Termination of temperature & sensory information from CN III
- Lateral brain stem
Anterolateral system
- Pain, tempreture & crude touch
- Three ascending pathways
- Spinothalamic tracts
- Spinoreticulotract
- Spinotectal tracts
Inferior Olivary Nucleus
- Origin of climbing fibers
- Ventral lateral medulla
Pyramid
- Skilled Motor movements of the contralateral limb
- Vental medulla, containing decussated fibers from the corticospinal tract
Medial lemniscus
- Well localized touch vibration & joint sensation
- Connection between dorsal column nuclei (cuneate & fasiculus) and the thalamus
- Run through the arcuate fibers
Descending sympathetics
Dorsal longitudinal faiculatus
Nucleus ambiguus
- Nucleus for CNX & IX efferent
- Pharyngeal
- Lyrangeal
- Uvula
Medial Longitudinal Fasiculus
- Horizontal eye movements
- In the midline, ventral to the ventricle sysytem
Hypoglossal nucleus
- Motor neurons for tounge muscles
Dorsal Motor Nucleus of Vagus
- Parasympathetic pre-ganglionic neurons for CN X
- Rostral: Inferior salivatory nucleus provides parasympathetics to CN IX
Solitary Tract & Nucleus
- Visceral sensory neurons for CN X & CN IX go to nucleus. Rostral portion = taste information
