Caudal Pons Flashcards
Facial nerve
- Bend around the abducens nucleus causes facial colliculus
Facial nucleus
- Caudal pons
- Motor nerve fibers for muscles of facial expression
Anterolateral sytem
- Pain, tempreture & crude touch
- Three ascending pathways
- Spinothalamic tracts
- Spinoreticulotract
- Spinotectal tracts
Medial lemniscus
- Well localized touch vibration & joint sensation
- Connection between dorsal column nuclei (cuneate & fasiculus) and the thalamus
- Run through the arcuate fibers
Corticofugal fibers
Input from cortex into the pons
Pontine nuclei
- motor activity
- Termination of corticofugal fibers and projection to the pontocerebellar projections
Trapezoid body
Crossing fibers for the auditory pathway in the pons
Raphe nucleus
Seronin containing nuclei in the midline
Abducens nerve
Innervates lateral rectus for lateral eye movement
Spinal tract & nucleus of trigeminal nerve
- Pain & temperature sensory information, 1st order receptors for CN III.
- Run through the lateral medulla
Medial Longitudinal Fasiculus
- Horizontal eye movements
- In the midline, ventral to the ventricle sysytem
Abducens nucleus
Innervates lateral rectus for lateral eye movement
4th Ventricle
- Ventricular system
- Dorsal to the brain stem from mid-medulla through pons
