Micturition Flashcards
Ureteral Renal Reflex
Pain felt due to kidney stone will stimulate sympathetic NS –> constriction of renal arterioles so you have less fluid passing and less pressure on the obstruction
What is a sign of acute renal failure?
Hydronephrosis
What are the 4 anatomic constrictions?
- Uteropelvic junction
- Testicular/ovarian A
- External Iliac A/V
- Bladder wall
What is the vesicoureteral reflex?
Urine pushes back up ureter as the bladder contracts.
Risk of pyelonephritis- bacteria getting into ureter
What fibers sense bladder pain?
C-fibers
What fibers sense bladder fullness?
Ad
What is the sacral micturition center?
S2-S4
What nerve, NT, and receptor are associated with parasympathetic innervation?
Pelvic splanchnic N (s2-s4)
ACh
M3 (mAchR)
What nerve, NT, and receptor are associated with sympathetic innervation?
Hypogastric N. (L4)
Epi
Adrenergic
What nerve, NT, and receptor are associated with somatic innervation?
Pudendal N. (s2-S4)
Ach
nAchR
Storage reflex
Activation: Bladder Filling
Control center: Spinal chord
NS activated: Sympathetic
Effect: Relax Detrusor, Contract sphincter
Voiding reflex
Activation: Bladder full
Control Center: Brain
NS activated: Parasympathetic
Effect: Contract Detrusor; Relax sphincter
PAG
Midbrain
Signals to PMC
(Gets signal from afferent nerves)
PMC
Responsible for micturition
Coordinates S2-S4
Cerebral cortex
Allows us to control external sphincter
Inhibit micturition
